Video clips highlight success at ABS 2009
A new series of videos produced by Newfoundland native Nik Sexton highlight speakers and attendees who revelled in the day’s discussions at the Atlantic Business Summit 2009. The three videos were shot on location at the event and include keynote speaker Don Tapscott and moderator Seamus O’Regan.
ECC members may have noticed a few new additions to ECC’s Youtube and Vimeo pages. Along with full length videos of every panel discussion and presentation at the Atlantic Business Summit, internet surfers can now get an inside look at the event through interviews conducted by director’ producer Nik Sexton between sessions on June 4th 2009.
If you happened to be sorting through business cards in between networking conversations this year’s Summit you may have noticed Mr. Sexton approaching with his digital camera and man on the street microphone. If you had a postulation or interesting thought to share you may also have made final cut for one of the three featured videos produced this year.
After a full day of shooting, Nik pulled together a small but highly seasoned production squad to compile three videos that capture the full energy of the day.
The Longest of the three features our familiar ‘I am East Coast Connected’ montage with Andrew Coyne and David Dingwall to name a few. Insights from Springboard Atlantic’s CEO David Shindler, eNRG Consulting’s President Micheal Claener and keynote speaker Don Tapscott provide an inside perspective on the day. Moderator and CTV host Seamus O’Regan bookends the video.
The second clip provides a concise snapshot of the continuing value of the Atlantic Business Summit. Comments from ECC President Chris Crowell, NATI’s Executive Director Paul Dubé, Dalhousie’s Director of Recruitment Ian Murray provide their feelings about what the successes were and why it is a “Must attend event.”
Finally, outtakes from the interviews were cleverly edited together to showcase everyone’s favourite place in Atlantic Canada. Where is Don Tapscott’s favourite place in Atlantic Canada? Check out the ‘Places’ Video to find out.
10 questions with Nik Sexton:
East Coast Connected: Where is your home town?
Nik Sexton: Born and raised in St. John's, NL. but currently residing in Toronto.
ECC: What is your Video production background?
NS: I'm the Researcher on The Rick Mercer Report, the head researcher of a one man department. Seriously great show and excellent guys to work for. In the off season I've been working on my own web programming stuff like The Motion Show and the elusive Donnie Dumphy (shameless plug), A George Canyon doc shoot, Homegrown skateboards videos, Kenny vs. Spenny interview for SBC magazine and filming my lil girl Ruby grow up.
ECC: Who was the editor of the ECC Atlantic Business Summit 2009 videos?
NS: The ever talented Gemini award winning editor Miles Davren.
ECC: And who designed the animated logo?
NS: Mike Burroughs, who is hands down one of the best graphics guys I've ever worked with.
ECC: What was your favourite part of the day?
NS: The never ending supply of mini muffins. I love watching the panel discuss and sometimes debate, it's cool because it's not one of those summits or conferences that people are forced to attend because they're boss sent them. Folks are there because they all have a great deal of love for Atlantic Canada and to me, that alone is worth the ticket price.
ECC: Who was your favourite speaker?
NS: Don Tapscott is obviously a pro when it comes to speaking but to be honest everybody was really good, especially the moderators.
ECC: Who provided the funniest answer?
NS: Seamus O'Reagan wasn't giving up his "favorite place in the east coast" and I was all like "c'mon man" and than he said "but Nik it won't be my favorite if everyone knows about". In hindsight, he had an excellent point.
ECC: Who had the most outtakes?
NS: Actually myself, you'd think by now I'd of learned how to ask someone a simple question.
ECC: What’s your favourite part of post production, the all you can eat candy or the espresso?
NS: Haha, yeah Miles' spot [Wanted! Sound and picture] has some sweet perks. I'd go have to with the candy, who knew that Werther's original could sub for a meal!
ECC: What other projects are you working on?
NS: Donnie Dumphy is my biggest venture, we just opened for Akon at Salmon Festival in Grand Falls, NL. I'm also really looking forward to going back to Rick Mercer Report because it's such a great show to work on.
ECC: Will you shoot for us again?
NS: Only if you do your next summit with a Kiss or Harry Potter theme, than I'm there.
