Oromocto, NB second safest city in Canada: Maclean's
According to Maclean's Magazine, the town of Oromocto, New Brunswick is the overall second safest community in Canada. This data was calculated from 2006 crime statistics of 100 cities and communities provided by the Canadian Centre for Justice.
Oromocto is a secluded town in the St. John River Valley a short drive from Fredericton. However, the statistics do not correlate towards the Atlantic as a whole - Halifax is marked as Canada's 7th most dangerous community. This also gives it the dubious distinction of being the most dangerous community in Atlantic Canada, at least according to Maclean's.
In fact, all the safe communities tend to be small, prosperous suburbs. Caledon, ranked #1 safest, is a small semi-rural community northwest of Toronto.
From the looks of things, there is no single province or region in Canada which can be categorized as dangerous or safe. It appears that anywhere you live, there's always good apples and bad apples.
