NDP wins majority government in Nova Scotia
In the midst of economic uncertainty, Nova Scotians have turned to the left. On Tuesday night, the Nova Scoatia's New Democratic Party won 31 out of 51 seats marking the first time that the NDP has held a majority government in the province.
"There's a lot of work that Nova Scotians expect us to accomplish," the New Democrat leader told a news conference Wednesday morning in Halifax.
He and 30 other New Democrats will form Nova Scotia's first ever NDP government. Mr. Dexter has appointed Dan O'Connor as chief of staff for the premier's office.
According to a recent Globe and Mail panel, public reactions to negative advertising from the Conservatives and a ten year stint as the official opposition were some of the key ingredients that influenced the victory.
Dexter is expected to call summer session in order to swear in the cabinet, name the speaker and perform other administrative matters. For the local perspective, click here for the coverage courtesy of the Chronicle Herald.
