Atlantic Business Summit raising eyebrows in NB press

Believe the hype; Atlantic Canada is one of this nation’s strongest regions when it comes to quality of life, economic opportunity and infrastructure. If you’re sceptical about this, have a look at this year’s speakers and panellists at the Atlantic Business Summit, being held this Friday in Toronto, and you’ll quickly realize that this region has spawned some of this country’s best and brightest.

Just ask East Coast Connected’s Chris Crowell what he thinks of the region on any given day and he’ll give you the sell of a self professed “Shameless optimist when it comes to the potential for Atlantic Canada." In an article published today by the New Brunswick Business Journal, Chris outlined the challenges of promoting a region which classically has been given a reputation for underselling its wherewithal.

"The challenge we face is that we don't always do a good enough job of singing our own praises and promoting ourselves," said Crowell, who helped found a group called East Coast Connected a couple of years ago and came up with the idea for the summit, now in its second year. "There's a very humble quality that makes us Atlantic Canadians. It's a wonderful thing and we shouldn't lose it, but at the same time we need to stand up and promote ourselves a little bit better, too.

This Year the Atlantic Business Summit features keynote speakers John Risley, past chairman of Clearwater Seafoods, and Don Tapscott, co-author of the best-selling book Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything.
