On Saturday, February 4th - East Coast Connected (ECC) and presenting sponsor Alexander Keith's hosted 100+ people at the John Labatt Room Pub in downtown Toronto. It was ECC's second fundraising Good Cheer event. Not too many people complained that we sold 2 drinks for $5 all night. With a silent auction, lots of games and laughter, we lived the Atlantic Canadian theme of 'we work hard', 'we play hard' and 'we are generous', the event raised $5,000 for the Hospice Palliative Care Association of PEI. Fans of Halifax rock were in for a treat on January 15th when three of Nova Scotia’s finest took to the stage at Toronto’s Legendary Horseshoe Tavern. On July 30, Magnetic Hill will draw thousands of fans as U2, Arcade Fire and Carney will perform in Moncton, New Brunswick. (Halifax, NS) -- Three weeks ago, Halifax-based roots-rockers The Stanfields were stranded in Kamloops, BC due to van complications. The cost of repair for their van was steep and it meant the band might not make it home in time to play at the Nova Scotia Music Awards, where they were nominated for several awards. Read more

Ms. Johanna Skibsrud, originally from Scotsburn, Nova Scotia, is now Canada’s newest star. Her first novel, The Sentamentalists, has received Canada’s most prestigious literary award, the $50,000 Scotiabank Giller Prize. The 30-year old received the award November 9, 2010, making her the youngest writer to receive the Giller Prize in its 17-year history. Read more

On a sunny May 20th at Toronto’s Duke of Westminster, ECC members new and old were treated to an Atlantic Canadian original: Sons of Maxwell musician and internet sensation Dave Carroll. Speaking at ECC’s Coast and Cocktails as part of his tour of Canada, Carroll entertained the crowd with his “United Breaks Guitars” experience, explaining how his life has changed since then, and then performing several songs, much to the pleasure of the crowd.
